This is our second post for Samsung.
Recently, we recent the demo for the new SHS5050 [bottom Right], this Black stallion really looks like a facelift from the earlier RED DOT design winner SHS6020 [bottom Left]

Our first impression of this is like a strip down version of SHS 6020. SHS6020 came with the Premium Aluminum front and SHS5050 is without. We suppose this is constructed using the same platform.

Comparing the sizes, we can see the both measurements are very close. with a difference in a few milimeters. Looking that the material of SHS5050, its a black high gloss acrylic which looks very minimalist and stealth. However compared to SHS6020, the Aluminum does give a level of class while highlighting the number pad and card reader.
The new range now has 2 mortice options for both SHS6020 and SHS5050 the earlier
110mm mortice and the new 240mm mortice. This will better replace the
current door locks and address the local locks specification in
Singapore. Watch the video of the 2 models below.

However, after we tested both in our office, we found out that SHS 5050 uses a new software which has 2 more functions than SHS6020.
1. One Touch Anti-Theft setup
This feature is found in the newer models like SHS3320 and SHS5230. One Touch Anti-Theft setup is available once door is close and from the outside, a "HOME" icon will be lighted on the keypad. Once tabbed, it will secure the home from outside and any exit from inside the house will trigger off the alarm. This function typically applies when bugler climb through the window and tries to exit from the front door. Also, some home-owners uses this to catch maids from moon-lighting. 2. Dual-Verification setup option
Like SHS3320 and SHS5230, this is also a new feature on newer software platform. You can now activate double verification via Pin code then Card to increase security. However, we do not recommend home owners to activate this feature as it may cause more inconvenience. Typically, this function is commonly use for commercial users and maybe the study room where there are valuables or confidential documents.
The last a major difference is Price,

SHS5050 RRP $980 - Current Promo Price $788.00
Price in RED are valid from May - June, Price is inclusive of installation and GST.
Both packing comes complete with 2 RFID Key chains, 2 RFiD cards and 2 mechanical Keys. Order within May 2013 and recieve 2 free RFiD cards worth $30.
In summary, we see this New SHS5050 as a update to the current Samsung SMART door lock collection. By reducing cost on the Aluminum front panel and its ring LED animation, its able to make its selling price more competitive against other digital locks. Also, the new software also gives users more options in managing their security preference.
However, we feel that SHS5050 will not take over the SHS6020 market, as design conscious users may still prefer SHS6020 for its cool design. Personally, i just can't get enough of the TRON-like circular animation of the Red LED.
This is the latest update on Yale's new structure.
Extension of Warranty With effect from 1st April 2013, all Yale digital door lock will have 1 year onsite warranty and the second year of free parts warranty. This will mean that the second year, if there is any problem with the digital door lock, Yale will provide free replace parts and a minimal fee of $53.50 [incl GST] will to charge to cover transport and labour. This is Yale's new commitment to their products, as Samsung has implemented this since early 2012.

New Price Structure is also observed in the new price list. For YDM 4109, YDR 4110 will see a increment of $11, this is due to upgraded hardware. While on the other hand YDM3109 and YDR3110 saw a price reduction of $189 and $89 due to large volumes in project and recovering of the R&D cost.
Also, noted are the launch of 2 models YDG313 at Q1 and YDR333 at Q2 Features of the new models will be done on the next post.

Since Yale discontinues YDR2110, there has been not replacement in the Rim lock category till YDR1211. This model is much improved with the latest invisible touchpad.

The Invisible Smart Touchpad is a touch activated keypad conceal under a clean black glass. When touched, the numbers illuminates by individual LED. Also this models are more energy saving compared to previous models. [4 batteries instead of 8]
Scramble Code is a advance PIN code input system that allow users to "Scramble" the code by adding more numbers either before or after the PIN code thus confusing by-standers.

The main feature for this DDL is the One-Touch Fingerprint Verification Method.
Unlike older variants of glass scan [like photocopier], the one swipe action conveniently lifts the cover & swipes for verification. Lids close automatically after use with the spring loaded protection cover.

Mentioned on Previous Post, the attached Lever handle as well as a European Mortice, this has additional features on top of YDR4110.
Anti Panic Egress Function allows users to unlock automatically just by using the Safe Lever inside. This provides convenience as well as improve safety in case of emergency.
European Profile mortice also integrates with a High Security Cylinder which allows users to Over-write using mechanical key in case of low battery or failure.
Alike to YDR3110, the attached Lever handle as well as a European Mortice, this has additional features like Anti Panic Egress Function, Safe Lever inside and High Security Cylinder forOver-write using mechanical key.
Biometric Digital locks have been in our market for around 5years. Earlier models made its entry with those 25 x 25mm glass panel that scans our thumb with a red light.
In late 09, Yale launched its 1st Biometric digital door lock in Singapore with the latest EasyScan One-Touch Fingerprint Verificationthat uses a swipe action.
Being a Yale distributor, we are excited about this product as much as this Tech savvy home owner in Toh Tuck.
Due to the condo's requirement, we are not allow to change the main entrance door, the couple still managed stain the door wenge & add a touch of tech.
Yale YDM4109 comes with multiple mode of entry, either via EasyScan One-Touch Fingerprint Verification, Numeric password on Smart Touchpad or High-security Mechanical Key.
The Yale YDM4109 also stepped up a level among the Korean competitors by integrating its German Mortice into the electronics.
When it comes to choosing the locks for your entrance doors, upon aesthetics, each individual styles does have different functions and applications.
1. Gripset, aka bored lock or Entrance Handleset. As this lock is mostly given by HDB, its one of the most common lock in Singapore context. Key operates bolt on the top, while thumb triggers activate the latches. Typical cyclic tested for 200,000 cycles
2 & 3. European Profile Mortices is probably the second most common locks in residential & commercial. Typical cyclic tested for 500,000 cycles and are fire-rated approved. Lever styles has many varieties, on Rosette 2 or on Plate 3. This is also very versatile as components are interchangable. High-security cylinders with special keys are widely available on European profile platform, do speak with us for more details
4. ANSI Mortice Entrance set is made well known by Baldwin in Singapore, commonly seen in older condominiums projects. This look is highly robust, cyclic tested for 800,000 cycles. Look is also configure in Slam Shut while Passage function is temporary available. ANSI can only be installed in minimum 45mm doors thus unsual in HDB estates.
5 & 6, Pull handles recently got popular in Residential areas, which we only seen them in shopping centres or office entrance. Pull handles comes in different lengths, thus positions of cylinder can vary. Common pull handles will sit on European profile roller lockcases, however occasionally on deadbolts for budget consumers. High-security cylinders with special keys are widely available on European profile platform, do speak with us for more details
Digital door locks are also getting popular with entry modes of either magnetic keys, RFid cards and Biometrics. This lock had created added convenience of not carrying keys to open the doors.
7. Digital lock on pull handles are common for Condominium as apartments comes with pull handles and owners get a ADD-ON digital rim lock to be installed above the pull handles. 8. Also in Luxurious Condominiums, developers includes this lock as it shares the same platform for access cards to apartment locks. Thus reducing the hassle of keys or many cards. Lever handle will sit on a mortice and bigger brands does offer Key-overwrite and even European mortice.
